Various links I've collected over the last couple of weeks:
- Geoff Mulgan talking about post-capitalism-crisis society (note that there's an interactive transcript at the side for those, like me, who are allergic to video). He focusses on ideas of social entrepreneurship and investment in social capital.
- New Scientist article showing evidence of methane bubbling up in the Arctic Ocean. This may be due to the warming of the West Spitsbergen current (1o over 30 years), and it could indicate the upcoming release of really large quantities of methane.
- The Climate Safety report: a very readable summary of the current situation, which demonstrates another reason why carbon trading won't work, namely, because we need to move RIGHT NOW.
- Action points on climate change for the individual (from my friend Elizabeth, an environmental economist).
- Finally: the Copenhagen climate summit is coming up in mid-December. The Economist provides a brief round-up of facts and figures. If on the other hand you wish to protest, here's the UK Climate Camp webpage (includes links to transport), or you can check out the website of the international Climate Justice Action group. There will also be a march in London on the 5th Dec 2009.
